Last week, Lego started selling their new Castle kits on their online store. Someone in Denmark must have missed the memo about Harry Potter being a bad influence on kids, because by golly they’ve one upped them. Instead of bandits or rogue knights as villians, they’ve gone for an Evil Dead theme this time around. An army of skeletons! Armed with new morning stars! And giant sweeping scythes! And a necromancer! It’s enough to make a medieval minifig collector weep.

The Skeleton Tower arrived yesterday – alas, no skeleton horses in this one. (By the way, a telling indicator of the love of Pixarians for their toys: every coworker I talked to about skeletal Lego horses was excited.) The skeleton figs have been upgraded. The new poseable arms are a vast improvement; the ball and socket on the old model (lying on the ground) resulted in floppy arms that weren’t suitable for holding weapons. This, by the way, didn’t stop me from amassing more than a dozen of them. On the other hand, the new arms are longer, but still perfectly straight, which is odd; even without an articulated elbow, normal minifigs have some degree of bend in the arm, and by comparison these skeletons like they belong to gorillas.
And okay, the wizard seems to be made of recycled parts. That’s an Ogel head, and I’m pretty sure the torso’s from the Emperor’s Royal Guards from the Star Wars line. The new magical bolty zappy transparent element is a nice touch though.
I won’t talk about the dragon, because it looks like it escaped from Duplo land. There was no need for a giant hunk of plastic here, especially when the dragons from last year’s Vikings were done so well with smaller pieces. On the other hand, crafting a hanging gibbet cage from bone was an especially ghoulish touch. I’m looking forward to the rest of this line, it’ll help erase the bad memory of the Bat Lords.
I want the new lego evil wizard theme so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I cant wait till christmas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
