Above is an approximation of the footwork for Taegeuk Iljong, the lowest form that I will be tested on (and already have difficulty remembering). Below are listed the five one-step sparring exercises that I’m going to try to use during the exam.
Maybe I should just take up square dancing instead.
- Move left foot to the outside of the opponent, and forward into horse stance.
- At the same time, push block with left hand. Grab and push opponent’s arm down if necessary.
- Three punches (left, right, left), first two to midsection, last to head. Kihap!
- Move left foot back into natural stance.
- At the same time, in to out block with right hand. Grab opponent’s arm.
- Front kick with right leg.
- Without putting leg down, roundhouse kick with right leg.
- Put right leg down into right front stance, left punch to head. Kihap!
- Move left foot back into back stance.
- At the same time, double knife hand middle block, to the right.
- Left out to in knifehand strike to attacker’s neck.
- Palm strike to head with right hand. Kihap!
- Move right leg back into front stance.
- At the same time, in to out block with left arm. Grab opponent’s arm.
- Midsection roundhouse kick with right leg.
- Without putting leg down, high section roundhouse kick without putting leg down. Kihap!
- Move left leg back into horse stance.
- At the same time, outside to inside middle block with right arm.
- Turning all the way counterclockwise, attack with left elbow strike to midsection.
- Keep turning counterclockwise until facing back of opponent.
- Punch to the midsection. Kihap!
