The three questions I got wrong on my driver’s license written exam were, roughly as follows (with the “correct” answer in bold):

1. When is it safe to merge back into traffic after passing?

  • Only when you are three car-lengths ahead of the passed vehicle
  • When you see the passed car’s headlights in your rear view mirror
  • As soon as you pass the bumper

2. When should you have your headlights turned on?

  • Between the time of one hour before sunset to one hour after sunrise
  • When it improves your ability to see and other’s ability to see you
  • When you can’t see up to 200 feet in front of you

3. At a four way stop sign, you should yield the right of way to:

  • The person who got there first
  • The person on your right
  • The person on your left

I’d be pretty angry about #1 and #2 if I had failed, but I didn’t, so.. whatever. Just make sure you’re not the driving the car I pass.
