It has been a fairly hellish work week so far, and it’s only Tuesday. We’re STILL trying to get our stupid software out the door for beta testing but finding last minute issues; all the while we now have a dozen international resellers here from today til Thursday for training and so I have been running around trying to extinguish fires in between the classes.

When this happened last year, I was suffering from a cold, lost my voice within a couple of hours, and to add insult to injury the hot water in my apartment died. Cold showers suck when you’re sick. This year, the hot water is fine, I’m not sick, and I taught for about 4 hours today and didn’t lose my voice this year, so things are looking up. This year’s audience’s eyes didn’t glaze over nor did they roll into the back of their heads, which (in my mind) suggests I seem to be doing better at this teaching business. Actually, I find nowadays getting in front of the dozen or so people in order to talk about software is something I now barely worry about. A couple of years ago I would have freaked out.

Was reading discussion on whether Congress would repeal the draft this year, and discovered something very scary - found out that in the states, since 1980, all males between 18 and 26 have had to register for a potential future draft by getting a “Selective Service Registration Number”. The annoying thing is that if you look at that web site it looks like I’m supposed to register, being a “permanent resident alien”. This is very scary. Anyways, I’m staying away from this one - I didn’t get an official notice about it, so when war vs China is declared I’ll pretend ignorance, burn my draft card, and flee to Canada.
