Met up with Danielle Michael in SF. She used to work at Vertigo with me back in 1997 when Vertigo was still doing something cool. This was following up a commitment from two weeks ago; I ran into her at the SF airport on the way to Vancouver. It turns out she’s now working at Discreet software in SF, but still living in Vancouver, and flies down here every two weeks for two days for meetings. So we wandered around for a bit - she was greatly perturbed that I had no clue as to where to go to eat or have fun (”I was relying on you to show me where to go around here!”) - and ended up in the Gold Dust Lounge for drinks. I forgot about not drinking on an empty stomach, so I was under the influence after the second drink, but we still had an intelligent conversation for a couple of hours - mainly heavy issues much related to careers. Went for sushi at some sushi boat place. Danielle went back to work at 10 pm.
The conversation left me rather depressed; suffice to say I felt more homesick (for Vancouver) than I have in a long time, and far less certain about whether I want to be doing what I’m currently doing.
